In a groundbreaking “health check” for our planet, a team of 29 international experts has unveiled alarming findings about the state of Earth’s life-support systems. Human Activity Crossing Planetary Boundaries
Building upon a 2015 report, the study reveals that humanity has already crossed six of the nine “planetary boundaries”. Thus, that defines the safe limits for human existence. Among the nine assessed boundaries, only ocean acidification, ozone depletion, and airborne pollution are still within safe limits. It has risen significantly to around 417 parts per million, far above the safe level of 350 ppm.
Accelerated Species Extinction
The study also reveals that the current rate of species extinction is at least tens of times faster than the average rate over the past 10 million years. This indicates that the planet has already crossed the safe boundary for genetic diversity.

Co-author Johan Rockström, the director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, hopes that the world will heed these findings as a critical wake-up call.
